So, on July 12, 1997, there was no celebration in Mingora, Pakistan to welcome Malala Yousafzai into the world. Malala was the firstborn of Ziauddin and Tor Pekai Yousafzai. Later they had two sons &#8211; Atal and Khushal.<\/p>\n<p>But this was no ordinary day. A campaigner for girls&#8217; education, the youngest Nobel Prize Laureate, and the girl who would survive a Taliban bullet was born!<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2007 Swat Valley crisis<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3030\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3030\" style=\"width: 611px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3030 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/florafountaindigital.com\/2020\/doerlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Time-Magazine.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"SWAT Valley unrest\" width=\"611\" height=\"404\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3030\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credits: Time Magazine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mingora was located in the Swat Valley. In 2007, the Taliban began to control and force its rule on Swat Valley and entire northwestern Pakistan. Their fanatical extremist ideologies had started to spread. They began to ban girls from attending school, families from owning a television and playing music, and also prohibited any cultural activity like drama and dancing. Believing in the right to an education, Malala and her father stood up to the Taliban. In an interview on Pakistan television Malala said, \u201cHow dare the Taliban take away my basic right to education.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2008 Taliban terror<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3051\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3051\" style=\"width: 712px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3051 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/florafountaindigital.com\/2020\/doerlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Reuters-UK.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"712\" height=\"545\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3051\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credits: Reuters UK<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In January 2008, as most girls were dropping out of school due to fear, Malala bid her friends a tearful farewell not knowing when she would meet them again. By the end of 2008, the Taliban had destroyed 400 schools. Anyone who would challenge or disobey the Taliban rule was given harsh punishments including death.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2009 Freedom to express<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3055\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3055\" style=\"width: 616px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3055 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/florafountaindigital.com\/2020\/doerlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Digital-Activism.png.png\" alt=\"Malala's blog in BBC\" width=\"616\" height=\"511\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3055\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credits: Digital Activism<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While most girls were terrified to go to any school, few like Malala continued to attend classes at Khushal Girls School and College<strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0In early 2009, Malala also began to blog under the pseudonym \u2018Gul Makai\u2019 on the Urdu website of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). In her blog \u201cI am afraid,\u201d she conveyed to the world the real life situation in the Swat Valley under Taliban rule, describing an impending war between Pakistan and the Taliban. On May 5, 2009, Malala became an internally displaced person (IDP), after her family was forced to leave Mingora.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2010 Public campaign<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3042\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3042\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3042 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/florafountaindigital.com\/2020\/doerlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Deutsche-Welle.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"Malala Yousafzai father\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3042\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credits: Deutsche Welle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On the family\u2019s return to Swat Valley, Malala and her father resumed their activism. This time as their voices grew louder their fervour spread in Pakistan and other countries. Malala continued her public campaigns in the media for her right to go to school while her father reiterated the need to give Pakistani girls access to free quality education.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2011 Recognition<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3043\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3043\" style=\"width: 384px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3043 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/florafountaindigital.com\/2020\/doerlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Weebly.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"Malala receiving Pakistan\u2019s National Youth Peace Prize\" width=\"384\" height=\"216\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3043\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credits: Weebly<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Malala the young activist for girl\u2019s education was only 14 years when she was awarded Pakistan\u2019s National Youth Peace Prize. On one hand while she was being nominated for the International Children\u2019s Peace Prize, 2011, on the other Taliban hardliners voted for her end. Nothing could stop her now, except maybe death.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2012 A dance with death<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3046\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3046\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3046 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/florafountaindigital.com\/2020\/doerlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Time-Mag.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"Malala shot by Taliban\" width=\"640\" height=\"457\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3046\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credits: Time Magazine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In October 2012, on her way home from school, a young bearded Taliban gunman boarded her school bus and asked, \u201cWho is Malala?\u201d He fired three shots. One critically missed her brain having passed through the left side of her head. Malala was seriously wounded while her friends Kainat Riaz and Shazia Ramzan got killed. She was airlifted to a Pakistani military hospital in Peshawar and four days later to an intensive care unit in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Malala woke up after 10 days from a medically induced coma with millions of people around the world praying for her recovery.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2013 More determined than ever<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3036\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3036\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3036 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/florafountaindigital.com\/2020\/doerlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Scroll.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"Malala Yousufzai\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3036\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credits: Scroll<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After her brush with death, Malala was even more determined to fight for girls education. On her 16<sup>th<\/sup> birthday, Malala Yousafzai poured out her heart and views in front of a housefull of attendees at the United Nations in New York. Later in October, she published her first book and autobiography \u201cI Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban.\u201d On October 10, 2013, the European Parliament awarded Malala the prestigious Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2014 Nobel Prize<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3037\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3037\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3037 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/florafountaindigital.com\/2020\/doerlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Nobel-Prize-Org.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"Malala receiving Nobel Prize\" width=\"640\" height=\"409\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3037\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credits: Nobelprize.org<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In October 2014, Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi, were named to receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nobelprize.org\/prizes\/peace\/2014\/yousafzai\/facts\/\">Nobel Peace Prize<\/a>\u00a0for their struggle against the suppression of children and the equal right of education for all children. Malala at the time of receiving the award was the youngest recipient for a Nobel Prize. Accepting this prestigious award, the 17-year-old Malala said \u201cThis award is not just for me. It is for those forgotten children who want education. It is for those frightened children who want peace. It is for those voiceless children who want change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, the Malala Fund was set up to empower girls through education. The organization was co-founded by Malala and her father. Today it funds education projects in six countries.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2018 Malala at Oxford<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3038\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3038 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/florafountaindigital.com\/2020\/doerlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/The-Telegrap.jpeg.jpeg\" alt=\"Malala at Oxford University\" width=\"640\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credits: The Telegraph<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Malala enrolled at the University of Oxford to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics. While she continues to study, she continues her fight for girls who are unable to get 12 years of free, safe, quality education.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2020 The Resurrection, the Resolve<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3049\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3049\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3049 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/florafountaindigital.com\/2020\/doerlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/NBC-nEWS.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"Malala Yousafzai\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3049\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credits: NBC News<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to Malala Yousafzai, \u201cIt was then I knew I had a choice: I could live a quiet life or I could make the most of this new life I had been given. I determined to continue my fight until every girl could go to school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Knowing more than 130 million girls are still out of school today, Malala\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/doerlife.com\/nelson-mandela\/\">resolve only gets stronger<\/a>. Her fight to educate the girl child is a far cry from over.<\/p>\n<p><em>And the story goes on\u2026\u2026.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Director Amjad Khan who released the film <em>Gul Makai: Malala Yousafzai Biopic on January 31, 2020, continues to receive<\/em> \u2018fatwa\u2019 threats.
