Richard Kozul-Wright, Director, Division on Globalization and Development Strategies at UNCTAD stated, ‘We envisage a slowdown in the global economy to under two percent for this year”.

Further, the lockdowns, the curfews, the work-from-home, the medical expenses, the loss of life due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic is estimated to take away close to $1 trillion from the global economy in 2020, as per the UN Conference on Trade and Development held on March 9, 2020. But, on the other side, on a lighter note, is CORONA going to take a single kilogram off you? Not in the way, the world is handling the virus from home. Remember Corona is not a common cold so the classic saying ‘Feed a Cold, Starve a Fever’ is not going to work. People are over-reacting and overeating which could get to them earlier that the deadly virus.

Indian women handling kitchens state that it’s up to them to handle the “food department” at home. Upon being interviewed recently, many stated symptoms of fatigue and fever due to an increase of household chores and not COVID 19. Such is the case in every alternate home where the husband is ‘working at home’, ‘children bored’ and ‘youngsters glued to Netflix or sending forwards on WhatsApp’ mostly not even authenticated – and what do they demand? Umpteen Snacks and cups of coffee and tea between regular meals. All this overeating is leading to a drop in immunity. Understand, our body is not designed to be stuffed with food. A person having sound health would require three adequately sized meals a day. The quarantine situation has seen to multiply this by two where people are now having at least 6 meals daily. Responsibility is turning into anxiety. After going through anxiety our body reflexively reaches a state of ‘exhaustion’, which is seen in this case by people trying to control the situation resorting to ‘Over Buying’ and ‘Over Eating’. Remember there are others in the world who are dying due to starvation and not boredom. When feelings of boredom at home are taking us to the refrigerator more, are making us reach out to the extra cups of tea and coffee, don’t forget something other than corona can kill.

It’s time to maintain ‘social distancing’, it’s time to avoid gatherings of more than 10 persons, and it’s time to put yourself under self-quarantine – Yes, it’s the time to stay indoors and stay healthy!

Let’s follow Anand Mahindra who has been super resourceful and sharing how he is dealing with self-quarantine coming up with a brilliant drawing ‘Commuting in Corona Times’.

I just wrote this article, you do something different other than eating!
